When i worked at local radio station 106.5 KFMT, we were called “southern minnesota’s and northern iowa’s best mix of the 80’s, 90’s and today”. we were a 100,000 watt station that played top 40 pop.
One of the most dreaded thing for a D.J. is when we get requests in. One of the things that makes pop music so popular is that we repeat it over and over again until you find yourself singing it and the next thing you know, you’re illegally downloading it off the internet because you can’t get it out of your head.
Well, whenever i’d open up the phone lines, i would get some fairly dumb-bunny requests:
Me: 106 point 5, KFMT, the Big Kahuna comin’ atcha with 100,000 watts of the best mix of music…on the way, brittany spears, aaliyah and something new from Eiffel 65…something you wanna hear? 507-555-PLAY!
Idiot: yeah, can i hear metallica?
Me: um…we’re a pop station. Metallica is hard rock.
Idiot: oh…well…how ’bout some Van Halen then?
Me: Van Halen would also be considered rock. Do you have a pop song you’d like to hear?
Idiot: um….um……Brad Paisley?
Me: (sigh) that’s country, tune in to our sister station 870 am, they play coun—
Idiot: just put some metallica on.
Me: we don’t have metallica. we’re a pop station, bud.
Me: okay, fine, what’s your name and where you callin’ from?
Idiot: Kevin Hoosengoober from HotDish Hell!
Me: Coming off the request lines for Kevin Hoosengoober from right here in the city of ponds…Hanson with mmm-bop!
