hotdishThought it might be a good idea to give out some recipes of infamous hotdishes served at the local churches. though most of them are probably lutheran…i imagine them catholic folks make a humdinger too.

Shipwreck HotDish

1 cup chopped onion
2 medium potatoes, sliced
1 pound lean ground beef
1/2 cup uncooked long grain rice
1 cup diced carrots
1 cup chopped celery
salt and pepper
paprika
1 can tomato soup
1 cup boiling water

Butter a 2-quart pan. Layer with onions, potatoes, ground beef, rice, carrots, and celery, sprinkling each layer with salt, pepper, and paprika. Combine soup with boiling water; pour over all. Bake at 300° for 3 hours. 

serves 4.

Two Scared Old Ladies on a Pontoon
 SERVES 4 TO 61/3 cup orange marmalade
1/3 cup spicy bbq sauce
2 Tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
2 Tablespoons lemon juice
2 pounds chicken pieces
salt and pepper

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Combine marmalade, bbq sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and lemon juice, mixing well. Place chicken skin side up in a 9×13 inch pan lined with aluminum foil. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Pour sauce over chicken and bake one hour, basting occasionally. Increase heat to 400 degrees and bake 15 minutes longer.

 
Slumgullion
1 pound lean ground beef
1 (11 ounce) can whole kernel corn
1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed
tomato soup
1 (8 ounce) package wide egg noodles
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheeseDirections
1 In a large skillet, cook and stir ground meat until
browned. Drain off excess fat.
2 Stir in corn and tomato soup. Simmer while the noodles
are cooking, about 10 minutes.
3 Cook pasta in a large pot of boiling water until al
dente. Drain.
4 Stir noodles into ground beef mixture, and sprinkle
parmesan cheese on top. Serve immediately.

 
Garbage HotDish
10-12 med potatoes, thin sliced
1 lb lean ground beef
1 med. onion chopped
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp chili powder
black pepper
2 (15.5 oz.) cans chili beans w/sauce
2 (10.5 oz.) cans cream of mushroom soup
½ cup milk
2 Tbs oleo or butterPreheat oven to 350°.
Grease or spray a 9×13 baking pan.
Slice potatoes and place them in a bowl of cold water.
In a skillet brown ground beef half way, drain.
Add onion, garlic powder and chili powder, finish browning meat.
Stir in beans, soup and milk. Continue heating and stirring until
hot all the way through.
Place a layer of potatoes in baking pan, season lightly with pepper,
then cover with a layer of meat and bean mixture.
Alternate layers until the pan is full, ending with a layer of potatoes.
Dot with oleo or butter. Cover with foil, place on a cookie sheet in oven
And bake for two hours or until potatoes are tender all through the dish.
Serves 6-8.

Goopy Boobs
4 deboned & skinned chicken breast
1 (10 1.2oz.) cans creamed chicken soup
8 oz. can sliced mushrooms
1/8 c. chopped green onion
1/2 (5 oz.) small can carnation milk
1/4 c. white cooking wineInstructions:
In a greased casserole dish place chicken breast.
Mix remaining ing. & pour over chicken & bake 350
1 hr. – 1 1/4 hr. or until chicken test done

These are only a few of the delicasies you could enjoy at any church potluck or minnesota gathering.

    These recipes look pretty darned good! Thanks for sharing and truthfully, I never called a hot dish a hot dish until I moved to Minnesota; at home it was always a casserole! LKR
