HotDish: by definition…

hotdishcoverThere are many different ways to say “hot dish”.

-“Say, that Sally over there’s one hot dish”

-“Ouch, Lena, ya got that water scalding. Burnt myself on that hot dish”

hotdishtatertots-“Hotdish? ya, just throw in whatever ya want, mix it with cream o’ whatever soup, sprinkle something crispy on top, an’ ya got yourself a real wholesome dinner”

Taken from the “Urban Dictionary“:

1.

Minnesotan for casserole, almost always combining cream of something soup and canned vegetables with a significant source of starch (e.g. noodles, tater tots). Mystery meat and French fried onions might be included if you’re having a good day. Nothing to do with a hot chick.
Hey Ole, did you catch the tater tot hotdish special down at the cafe? Heckuva deal.
2.

Adj–Regional adjective to describe the superlative degree of something that is “hot,” “cool,” “awesome,” or just plain “rad.” Native to Minnesota and surrounding states.
“Man, that hockey game was totally hotdish.”
“Liz, that muffintop of yours is so not hotdish.”

3.

Noun used to describe any genuinely warm-loving, attractive father or husband of midwestern origins.

Followed with “in the oven,” can be used to describe an attractive, warm-loving, midwestern man who would make a great husband and/or father.

Can be modified by adding “with meat” for more buff examples or “with extra cheese” for the more goofy type.

“I chatted with Tyler last night on Facebook. He’s so hot… and actually nice! Talk about a hotdish in the oven!”

But don’t ever call it a cassarole. Heavens, that’s like slappin’ the cook in tha face. Let them cheeseheads in Wisconsin call it cassarole!

Funny! Mystery meat is the one thing I always, ALWAYS wonder.

    “What’s in this?” I say.
“Whatever it is, it tastes good.” Friend says.

I cringe after having eaten it, finding out it was soya beans! Yikes, I need a plate of chili–pronto!

Thus I wonder if “extra cheese” is what I really wanted with the dish also.

Gosh, I love Minnesota. I feel it being closer to Canadian than any other state, yet still being American, if that makes sense. I love the accent…I’ve seen Fargo too many times to count. And I enjoy the winter, even though we get tough winters where I live.
