Shrek the Ogre is Coming!

shrekThat’s right, you’ve heard it right. The Blue Earth Town and Country Players are presenting “Shrek: the musical” this summer.

Casting calls were a week ago. My kids have been egging me on to play Shrek. Why? well, maybe i’m because i’m a big overweight grumpy teddy bear? who knows? or maybe i have the voice down. At any rate, i went to audition. I read for the part of Shrek, Donkey, and Lord Farquaad.

how to talk mn miller and ed 3I got a call back from the director who asked me if i thought i could do the music part of Shrek. I didn’t know. I’ve sang in rock bands before. But musicals are a whole different monster. I’ve been in two other musicals “How to Talk Minnesotan” Guys and Dolls Big Jule and Harry the Horseand “Guys and Dolls” but they were supporting roles, not main ones. I said i’d think it over.

i listened to the soundtrack thanks to a shady-looking deal that went down in the gravel parking lot of a rural bar on the outskirts of HotDish Hell. Last night i went in to audition for Shrek. The directors had me sing a few songs from the musical and after a few discussions about my schedule, they offered me the part.

So i will be seeing green and speaking in a scottish accent and listening to the soundtrack day and night for the next few months.

The show will be in mid-July. Go to Blue Earth Town and Country Players for more details.

Holy smokes! That’s awesome, Brad! Congratulations! Man, when you said you were musically inclined, you weren’t kidding. Good job with landing the part and even better hearing you’re going to be the big green guy for the next few months (well, not the jolly green giant, of course)! You are going to post a few YouTube videos clips of your performance, right? 😉 Good job, man!
